Jim Boylen
James "Jim" Boylen (born April 18, 1965) is an American basketball coach. He's perhaps most known for his controversial tenure as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 2018 to 2020.
Early Career: Boylen began his coaching career as an assistant coach at several colleges, including Michigan State and his alma mater, the University of Maine. He gained experience under respected coaches like Tom Izzo.
NBA Assistant: He then transitioned to the NBA, serving as an assistant coach for teams like the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs (winning a championship in 2014 under Gregg Popovich), and Indiana Pacers. He was generally considered a well-regarded assistant known for his intensity and defensive focus.
Chicago Bulls Head Coach: Boylen's most prominent and debated role came when he was promoted from associate head coach to head coach of the Chicago Bulls in December 2018 after the firing of Fred Hoiberg.
